Russia Presses Forces Towards Lyman

As Ukrainian forces continue their push across the front, it appears that Russia may be starting a new offensive operation of their own. Over the last few days, reports have come out of increased Russian presence in the Kremmina area and Defense Minister Shoigu stated a counteroffensive was underway towards Lyman.

Very little coming from Ukrainian sources on this topic and Russian sources are saying their forces may have advanced up to 3km towards the town of Torske.

Russia announcing a counteroffensive is unusual in this conflict. For the most part the attacks simply happen and it’s left to the mil-bloggers to determine if something is a concerted effort or just part of the overall fighting. The location here, along with the public pronouncement by Shoigu suggests this may be an attempt to ease the stress around Bakhmut. Depending on the success of the Russian attack near Kreminna, Ukraine may be forced to reallocate resources to help hold that line.
