Russian General: Ukraine is a Stepping Stone
Many Ukraine supporters have long pointed out that Russia will not stop if Kyiv falls, but rather, the goal of Putin is to continue to press into the Baltic states and beyond. Personally, I remain skeptical. In my opinion, even if they wanted to, the Russian military doesn’t appear capable of projecting significant combat power that distance from their border against a combined NATO force. However, a recent interview with a Russian general suggests that some at least, view Ukraine as just step one in what could be a broader war with Europe.
Colonel-General Andrey Mordvichev was interviewed last week where he said “I think there’s still plenty of time to spend. It is pointless to talk about a specified period. If we are talking about Eastern Europe, which we will have to, of course then it will be longer.” The interviewer asked, “Ukraine is only a stepping stone?” to which the general responded, “yes, absolutely. It is only the beginning. I think that all kinds of ideologists and instigators of this war will not stop here.”
